In case you missed it -- say you were watching "American Idol" or something -- Kevin Brown had a big night last night at Tropicana Field. Gave up six runs on eight hits in the first inning. Gave up two more in the fourth. Told his pitching coach his stomach was bugging him, and then hid in the trainer's room until the reporters left the clubhouse because he didn't want to own up to his miserable performance.

"Not interested," he told P.R. man Rick Cerrone, who asked if he'd come out and talk.

Remember when the Yankees used to have winners, instead of whiners?

These are dark days, with a good chance to get darker real soon. And as the Yankees fumble through a season that could turn out to be their most dismal since the days of Stump Merrill, they can look at Kevin Brown and see ... themselves.
