Newsflash: The Golf Channel recently announced plans for a 13-episode reality series starring John Daly, titled "The Daly Planet." The program will follow Daly's day-to-day life on and off the golf course.

The first thought that comes to mind: So John Daly's past 15 years in the public eye -- the two major victories, the multiple marriages and divorces, the battle with alcoholism, the country music album, the sponsorship deal with a restaurant known for its waitresses who, uh, serve buffalo wings -- were actually real?

We always figured Long John was a figment of our imagination, a real guy just playing the role of mythical figure. He is a modern-day Paul Bunyan, only instead of swinging an axe, Daly wields an oversize driver, much to the delight of folklore enthusiasts.

He's too good to be true.
