barry beck checks in from the road...

The Rangers were going for their 6th straight win last night but fell 2-1 to another original six team - The Toronto Maple Leafs. The Rangers have not won 6 straight since their 93-94 Stanley Cup campaign.

Despite the loss it was a good effort by the Blueshirts and one of those games during the course of the 84 game season that can be chalked up to bad bounces. The Leafs scored on 2 power play goals from Brian McCabe, the league's leader among defenseman for points. The Rangers were clearly robed on two questionable penalties which Toronto capitalized on. Another call late in the game worked against the Rangers when they had appeared to tie up the game. They called a high sticking call on Hossa who had put the puck in the net. Due to rule interpretation by the ref the goal was disallowed and the Rangers got on their flight to Raleigh where they will take on the Hurricanes tomorrow night with a loss.

Weeks played great in goal and the rangers hit the post several times. They just did not get the bounces they needed and while the Atlantic division leading Rangers didn't get any points, it was a good solid team effort. They now go take on the very hot and Conference leading Carolina Hurricanes in a home and home tilt starting Thursday at the RBC center in Raleigh.
