all hockey all the time...

barry and reggie are percolating all over themselves and spending more time on fredeeky content than on work, which i love. nice work gents. can i watch isles/rangers with the two of you this year?

The savvy front office made waves at the draft over the weekend. Sitting with the 16th pick in the draft the Blueshirts traded up by swapping their 16th and 41st picks with Atlanta. When the big mobile defenseman from the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL (Ontario Hockey League where Lindros and many other current stars cut their teeth) was available the the front office sized the opportunity to secure Marc Stall. His brother was the #2 overall pick by Carolina in 2003.

Think James Patrick - a stay at home defender who plays against the opposing teams top lines. This was a lucky steal as Stall was slated to go much higher. It's unlikely that Stall will be able to fit right in and contribute this year but I think this move is a good one. It sets up the opportunity to go after some more offensive minded defenders in the free agent market. Defenseman who can create offensively will be hot commodities with the new rules changes. I see Stall being a good fit with a guy like Poti. Nice move by Slats and Donny Maloney.

It will be interesting to see how the chips fall in the coming days with player signings. Today Free Agency began for NHLers. You see, GMs and player agents aren't sure how the market will develop. Will players have a chance to make more early or will the market develop slowly. It is a cat and mouse game right now. I am hearing that Messier may return to play for Keenan in Florida or even come full circle and end back in Edmonton. I for one hopes he had is swan song at MSG. It is possible we see Leach come back to MSG but again, he will likely wait it out to see where he can go to have the best chance to win. He doesn't have to worry about a salary at this point. So many questions out there, I just can't take the suspense of what the line up will look like on opening night in Philly on October 5th.

I am really grooving on Milbury's tactics for the Isles this year. With only 4 players under contract he plans to keep them all and with the 24% roll back in salaries he should have an ample amount of money to keep the rest of the team around. He will able to offer almost all returning tier II (Weinhandl, Kavasha, etc) free agents with comprable offers should other teams try to pick them up.

DiPietro will be our Number one Goalie, his solid performance in the world cup showed that he can play with the best. DiP will be backed by sturdy Garth Snow who signed a 3 yr contract last week!(He really is not worth all the money, but I guess he does wonders in the clubhouse.) Alexi Yashin has already been working out with a strength trainer and has expressed his comittment to the team as their go to guy. Milbury has been talking about trying to get Satan down on the Isle to play on the same line as Yashin. This is pretty much a Dream combo for me. Defense is where things get a little spotty Jonnsson Is probably going to stay in Sweden (mama's boy. I guess his next door Neighbor, my g-mom, kept him up too late with all the late night parties) Aucoin Just signed with the Blackhawks which really bums me out. It will be interesting to see what Milbury does defensively.

During the Draft we acquired our own International star, Ryan O'marra of Japan. He is a big forward who should be good in a year or two. One other highlight from the draft was Shea Guthrie the ISL player of the year from St. Georges.

It is going to be great having Hockey back. I can not wait!

Barry what memory makes you cry the most?

It was probably against the Islanders when I got hurt. I think it was ’84 when it was a best out of five series. I think that was the one where I got hurt at the Garden in the second period. Then that final game, we went out to Long Island where we lost in overtime and it was a great game. But that series probably sticks out in my mind the most just because it was the series that I got hurt. I had continuous problems with my shoulder after that
