Amphetamines, known throughout clubhouses as "greenies," have been part of baseball's culture for at least 40 years, according to former players. They are banned in the minor leagues. But though they are illegal without a prescription, they were not added to baseball's recently revised list of banned substances that included steroids, the human growth hormone and ephedra.
