new york kicks ass in chess, take that boston...
December 7, 2004 -- Move over, Bobby Fischer— there's a new chess prodigy in town.
Hikaru Nakamura, 16, of White Plains, yesterday became the youngest U.S. chess champion since Fischer did it in 1958 at 14.
The tournament, held in San Diego, ended up being a Westchester-Queens face-off as Nakamura beat Alex Stripunsky, 34, of Rego Park to take the $25,000 first prize.
The women's title also went to the northern suburb as Rusudan Goletiani of Hartsdale bested Tatev Abrahamyan, 16, of Glendale to earn $12,500.
